History Series: At the age of five, Scott’s fingers were too short to play the chanter, so he was first signed up for Highland dancing lessons. He started taking piping lessons in Kingston the following year and his first instructor was a piper in the Rob Roy Pipe Band named Don Blair. Over the years Scott has had many instructors including Jim Sutherland, Hugh Goldie, Peter Barbier, Peter Richards, Jerry Raycroft and Colin MacLellan. All of them have contributed in some way to Scott being the piper/teacher/leader/person that he is today. Scott got a big boost in his piping through his attendance at “The Seaway School of Piping” in Kingston.
Scott became Pipe Major of Rob Roy in 1984 at the age of eighteen and has been Pipe Major for most of the ensuing thirty-six years.
