Ottawa Branch Turns 50: Glengarry Cup, Knockouts, History, and a New Website!

The 2020-21 season kicks off the 50th anniversary of the PPBSO Ottawa Branch. Between now and the end of 2021, we'll be celebrating in a number of different ways. Despite the uncertainty brought about by Covid-19, we are going to mark this milestone in the best ways possible!

Glengarry Cup Professional MSR Contest

Watch performances on October 24th!

The 2020 Glengarry Cup is going online and is open to invited professional pipers. Contestants will be asked to submit tunes in two categories (MSR - own choice, and piobaireachd - own choice).

Our judges will be Andrew Berthoff for the MSR, and Michael Grey for the piobaireachd.

You can watch a livestream presentation of recorded MSR performances and results! More details on how to watch will be shared soon.

Online Knockout Series

Sign up and share your videos for the first event on November 7th

The Ottawa Branch Knockouts have been a staple in the region for decades. In light of COVID-19, this will be hosted online this season.

NEW for 2020-21

Celebrating fifty years! Competing is FREE for Branch members: The 2020-21 season marks the 50th anniversary of the Ottawa Branch. To mark this milestone, participation will be FREE for all Branch members that have paid their membership dues.

Bass and tenor categories are now part of the Knockouts: Following the success of the bass/tenor contest last season, we are including bass/tenor categories in the Knockouts!

History of Piping and Drumming in Eastern Ontario

As announced previously, part of our 50th anniversary celebrations include a forthcoming history series spearheaded by Graeme Ogilvie. Stay tuned for more information on this in the next few weeks.

Bagpipe and Drum Teacher Family Tree

Ross Davison is mapping the connections across Eastern Ontario's piping and drumming community. The idea behind this survey is to create a database of our area's influence to help understand how our art has been shared, shaped, and developed.

If you have not yet had the chance to complete the survey, please click the link below.

New Website

We’re proud to launch a new website! This platform will give us an enhanced ability to connect with members over the years ahead.

The volunteer executive team built this website entirely in-house using Wix. A big thank you to Cindy McGillivray-Ritchie for all the great photos taken over the years, which really help animate the site. The financial cost to members for this upgrade amounted to $0, with minimal maintenance costs required per month moving forward.
